History

OUR CREDIT UNION HERITAGE

Edward Filene was known as the Father of Credit Unions. While traveling in Europe Edward was inspired by the cooperative style banking used and in 1908 he opened the first credit union in the US. His mission was to allow American workers the equal opportunity to secure a loan and save money for a raining day without concerns of costly consumer fees or loan sharks. During the 30’s many banks perished while credit unions thrived. Today there are more than 90 million members to credit unions, all with the same philosophy of people helping people.

PEOPLES CREDIT UNION HISTORY

We first established roots in Webster City operating out of the home of Don and Colleen Follett and serving only the employees of Franklin Manufacturing Company and Arrow Acme Corporation. 23 years later, we joined forces with Hamilton County Public Employee Credit Union and changed the name to Peoples Credit Union. Today we are proud to say we are still locally owned with 3 branch locations, serving 11 counties and nearly 8,000-member owners.
